Career and Dating - what to apply to both

Career and Dating - what to apply to both

Looking for the one...person or job?! The similarities between looking for a job and partner are lowkey crazy. Both situations can make you nervous and throw you off your game. But both can also have major impacts on your life and can lead to truly meaningful connections.

Getting to know each other 101

  • Selfie time? Wether your searching for a job or for the one, a nice picture goes a long way. Even though pictures in CVs are outdated, a nice LinkedIn picture is still very much appreciated. And while your LinkedIn profile requires a little more professionalism than your Bumble one, career pictures should still reflect who you are and what kind of industry/position you are looking for.

  • Whether it's on a dating app or on a cover letter: the first sentences are the hardest to write. In both cases they should clearly show what you want, who you are and what makes you special/qualified. Try to get enough personality into your introduction to spark the readers' attention, but try not to give away toooo much right off the bat. There's plenty of time for people to discover all your quirks later.

  • Job interviews and dates can spark similar levels of anxiety. Try to keep your cool and remember: they have to sell themselves just as much as you are selling yourself. Interviews and dates exist to see if things would be a good fit and if both sides feel comfortable with one another. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • Looking for a job or a partner can be so so sooo tiring and unrewarding. Nobody wants to spend hours on end on LinkedIn or Tinder without finding the right thing. And endless Tinder convos can be just as annoying as sending out CV after CV and never hearing back from companies. In both cases: see, if you can network. Ask friends or acquaintences if they know of a company/person that might be the right fit for you. There's also career networking events that you can join, often for free. Things you find "naturally" are often the best, so use your network.

  • Learn to compromise. No job will ever be truly perfect. At least not for most people. The same goes for partners. The important thing is that you feel comfortable, have room to grow and are happy.
