LinkedIn: Time to pimp your profile!

LinkedIn: Time to pimp your profile!

Ready to take your LinkedIn game to the next level? We've got tips and tricks to spice up your profile.

1. Your profile pic, your vibe

Check this out: different jobs require different dress codes - investment bankers tend to dress more posh than marketing people, for example. Forget last night's selfies and treat yourself to a professional snapshot! You don't have to pose in a suit or dress, but make sure it fits your desired position or field. Plus, a smile always helps!

2. Headline that blows your mind

"Student" as a headline? Yawn. Time for a fat upgrade that will blow people's minds. You're not average...and people need to see that!

Instead of "Student", it them with "Future code warrior" or "Creative chaos queen in training". See what we mean? Mix skills, attitude and a touch of wit and the whole thing will run smoothly! And when someone looks at your headline they should think: "Whoa, this one's got it!".

3. Meet me – the short version

Alright! Now it's time to drop your story - short, snappy and with a dash of personality. Remember, you're not trying to write a novel here, we're trying to give people an insight into your vibe.

Let's dive in: Who are you? What makes your heart beat faster? Is there a moment or an experience that brought you on this journey? But hey, not too serious! Your about-me text is a mix of facts and your personal flavour. Check out an example: "I'm Tina, always on the hunt for the next creative kick. With a cup of coffee in my hand and an idea in my head, I rock the world of design. Here to make connections and push the boundaries. Let's vibe together!"

You feel the flow, don't you? Keep it real, but also show that you're ready for the future.

4. Keywords that take off

Think of LinkedIn as a level in your favourite game. And what do you need to beat the high score? That's right, the right keywords.

You want to be found easily, so use keywords that match your studies and skills. Are you a tech nerd? Then go for "software development" and "web design". But always stay relaxed - no keyword spam, it's annoying like bosses without a weak point. And by the way, there are tools you can use to research keywords, e.g. Google Keyword Planner. With little effort, the machine will spit out the words that are used in your dream industry. This will put you on the radar of recruiters and peers.

5. Show 'em what you got

This is about your experience - forget the boring list of jobs, now it's personal.

Don't just say where you were employed, but what you did there! Did you manage projects? Were you the creative head of a project? Time to shine! Write down everything relevant, from internships to project management and make a skills list that rocks - from soft skills to your technical skills. Practical experience is often seen as a big plus by companies.

6. Connect like a pro

Time to connect - but we're not doing it like spammers here, we're doing it like real pros!

Add, connect, network - that's the move. But please, no copy-paste requests, that's sooo 2010. Show that you're really interested and don't just bang out a mass add. Don't stress, you don't have to add CEOs or influencers. Start with people from your degree programme, maybe lecturers or something. Quality over quantity - every contact you make will get you further. Focus on adding recruiters, too. This way you can easily be found when they're looking for people to fill open positions (and yes, they actively search on LinkedIn).

7. Content queens and kings

Now it's time to make your profile a content hotspot. Your content shows who you are and what you are interested in!

Post what moves you - be it an interesting article about your industry, a cool quote or even a question for the community. It shows that you are up to date. Don't forget to respond to other people's posts. A like here, a comment there - it shows that you're really on the ball. But please, no emoji fireworks.
