What do you need to know when you demension a flood event ian a flood retention basin for a given event

a retention basin is used to hold back and catch the water of the event and avoid flooding . So we need to the discharge volumme of the event to know how much volume th ebasin needs to catch. The discharge and water level change over time and the total volume is needed to be calculated

process model

-based on wisdom and helps to understand the relation between input and output

-the process itself is tried to make clear by understanding what is happening between the two states -> simulates a process

-the model can be updated

empirical model

-based on information  based on experiments and empirical datas

-input and ooutput are known -> processes in between are unknown -> transfer funktion between in and output

- not very flexible

when are you using a descriptive model

when wewant to model sth that cant be described with numbers or mathmatics

-we work with words like if and when

-E.G.: fuzzy models

for which specific model management task is a rainfall runoff model used

-most basic model to simulate the process of runoff&precipitation

-they are used for single events models

-used to simulate:(flow region, process of runoff generation&concentration, simulate the storage and flood routing)

-numerical model

-e.g.:flod risk management

what problems does a rainfall runoff model has?

-lack of limited availability of rliable data

-high temporal effort for the development and validation

-difficult balance between high quality model and spatial aggrergation

-lack of transparency

When is the water balance model used

-despict the movement of water cycle between atmosphere, groundwater, soil by including processes like percolation, evaporation, retention, precipitation and runoff

-input and output need to be simulated

-large toimescale:at least a year

what are hydraulic models

-a hydraulic model is a mathmatical model of a fluid flow system

-it is used to analyze a hydraulic behavior

-what is a water balance model

-water balance models decribe computational aspects of water movement through the water cycle

Common between rainfall runoff models, water quality models, water balance models and hydraulic models

simulate the movement of water and try to improve the infrastructure and manage a water system

-driven by hydraulic characteristics

-

hydraulic model

mathmatical model of a fluid system by using real live data

-used to analyze a systems hydraulic behavior , while focused on the forces

-mechanic behavior of the the water is described

Common between rainfall runoff models, water quality models, water balance models

-describe the flows and processes of water in systems , while takeing runofff, storage and other exchanges in the water cycle

-restricted by phsical and mechanical behavior

-description and understanding of natural occurance

-water quality models needs information or RR models and water balance models
